Madison G. McGaffin

In May 2015, I defended my PhD dissertation (PDF), X-Ray CT Reconstruction on Highly Parallel Architectures, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. My PhD advisor was Jeffrey Fessler. The dissertation is concerned with fast algorithms for performing statistical image reconstruction, particularly using graphics processing units (GPUs).

Before coming to Michigan, I studied Mathematics and Electrical Engineering at Tufts University. I'm a biker, runner, homebrewer, comic book reader, programming language enthusiast, and political junkie.

I worked at Apple on the iPhone camera for 5 years after a postdoc at UMich. I contributed to a bunch of stuff, but I'm most proud of my contributions to Smart HDR, DeepFusion, and the Panorama revamp. These days I work on mixed reality stuff at Microsoft.
